How does pausing, holding, or canceling a subscription affect billing, shipments, or auto-refill schedules?

Managing your subscription with Join Piper can be done by pausing, holding, or canceling, each having implications for billing, shipments, and auto-refill schedules. This guide provides clarity on what happens in each scenario and answers common questions.

Pausing vs. Holding vs. Canceling: Key Differences

  • Pausing: No further orders or charges are processed until you choose to resume. This temporary suspension ensures you’re not billed unnecessarily and can resume treatment later at your discretion. Upon resumption, your prescribing provider may recommend restarting at a lower dose.

  • Holding: Similar to pausing, but your entire treatment is temporarily suspended. You will not see an active treatment in your portal during this period, but you can request to restart anytime. This approach ensures treatment continuity without gaps when resuming.

  • Canceling: Permanently stops future orders and charges. Any scheduled shipment after cancellation will be halted and not shipped.

Impact on Billing and Refunds

  • Billing During Pauses or Holds: No further charges are made while your subscription is paused or on hold. Billing resumes only when the subscription is reactivated.

  • Avoiding Charges Before Shipment: To prevent unnecessary charges, ensure your plan is paused or canceled before the billing date for your upcoming shipment.

  • Refund Processing: If you’ve already paid for a plan and adjust, pause, or cancel, refunds will be processed based on the value of the plan already received. For example, if you were billed for a 6-month plan but only received 3 months' worth, billing will be adjusted, and the refund will be returned to your original payment method (including Affirm, if used). Processing times depend on your payment provider.

Impact on Shipments

  • During Cancellation: No shipments associated with a canceled subscription will be processed. If you cancel before the billing date, you will not be charged for the upcoming shipment.

  • During Pausing or Holding: No shipments are sent while the subscription is paused or held. Once reactivated, shipments resume as per the chosen plan.

Understanding the Auto-Refill Cycle

Auto-refills are processed approximately every 25 days to ensure your next month’s medication arrives before you finish your current supply. This schedule accounts for provider review, pharmacy compounding, and shipping times to avoid gaps in treatment. While this may lead to earlier billing than expected, it guarantees continuous access to medication.

By understanding the differences between pausing, holding, and canceling subscriptions, you can more effectively manage your treatment plan and avoid billing issues or missed shipments. Always review your subscription status and reach out if you have any questions about your account or treatment plan.
